GREENSBORO – JT Poston, who won the John Deere Classic last weekend in Silva, Illinois, will next month play the Wyndham Championship, where he earned his first PGA TOUR win of 2019, the tournament announced today. today. The 83rd annual Wyndham Championship is scheduled for August 3-7, 2022.
Poston became just the second PGA TOUR wire-to-wire winner this season by winning the tournament by three strokes over Emiliano Grillo and Christiaan Bezuidenhout. With his second PGA TOUR win, Poston moved up to 22nd in the FedExCup points standings and earned a spot in the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews July 14-17, 2022.
Poston, who will start his fifth Wyndham Championship next month, entered the 2019 final round three strokes behind but shot a par 62 from 8 under and won the tournament by one stroke over 2011 champion Webb Simpson. Poston became the first player since 1974 to win a PGA TOUR stroke play event without making a bogey.
“JT is obviously playing some really good golf right now,” executive director Mark Brazil said. “Winning end to end is hard to do, but JT was in total control. When I called him to congratulate him, he said he would be back at the Wyndham Championship next month, and with the summer pass, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was in contention at Sedgefield in early August.
