Bets on John Deere Classic Matches (Fade Popular Names This Week)
The John Deere Classic gets the short end of the stick on the golf calendar. While most of the big names in golf travel to Europe to prepare for The Open Championship, the course is often left in a lackluster state.
That’s certainly the case this year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take a few bets.
Here are some tournament bets, with odds via WynnBET Sportsbook, that I like for this week’s event.
Nick Hardy -130 vs. Lucas Glover
I already like Nick Hardy to win the tournament, so how about a little double dip on him to beat Lucas Glover?
He’s moving in the right direction, including picking up his career-best T8 at the Travelers Championship. while Glover goes in the opposite direction. His last four starts have gone T23, T40, T60, then a T70 last week. He’s been one of the worst putters on the tour this season, and I don’t see anything in his game that makes me think he’ll shine in Illinois.
Brendon Todd -105 against Sahith Theegala
Sahith Theegala is one of the hottest picks this week, and you know how much I love going against the narrative and making the audience disappear. He has twice top-five finishes in his last three starts, but has a T53 sandwiched in there. He has talent, but his driving precision and ability to put on this season will let him down more often than not.
Meanwhile, Brendon Todd ranks sixth on the Tour in strokes gained: putting, and he’s a fantastic corner player, who will prove essential at the TPC Deere Run. I like him at -105 against Theegala this week.
Adam Hadwin +125 vs. Webb Simpson
I feel like Webb Simpson is just the favorite this week because he’s the only name in the field that the casual sports fan might recognize. His numbers this season don’t justify the short price, especially against a guy like Adam Hadwin.
Hadwin outclasses Simpson in just about every way except driving. Hadwin ranks 34th in total strokes won this season, against Simpson at 48th. So why is it favored by so many?
I will gladly support my fellow Canadian in this game.
