Falmouth Town FC receives grant to purchase tractor
FOOTBALL fans can hope for better ground at Falmouth Town FC after a £ 2,000 grant was awarded for the purchase of a new tractor.
At a meeting of the Falmouth City Council Finance and Goals Committee last Monday (May 24), team principal Andrew Westgarth told councilors that the club’s recent success meant they had to keep their land in better condition.
He said the club had managed to secure an FA grant of £ 14,000 for the purchase of a new tractor, but needed an additional £ 6,000 to cover the full cost.
He said that over the past six to seven years the club have made great strides on and off the pitch. He was now debt free and had started to modernize the facilities with new projectors, a new grandstand roof and general maintenance around the pitch.
“The club got back on track,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of success on the pitch. We’ve also linked with Falmouth Community Youth, so there is a springboard into men’s football.
“The only thing we struggled with was the terrain. I noticed that Alan [Jewell] is actually in this chat and it helps us a lot, but the equipment we have right now is not really suitable for the purpose.
“We have to borrow begging and settle for a ride on a lawn mower, which is not really good for our level of football.”
He said that a go-fund page had already raised money for me to cover the cost.

Cllr Steve Eva said the council donated money to rugby and donated money to sailing, but he had no recollection of the football club ever coming to them for money. So even though it was a significant amount, they should support it.
“If we put in £ 2,000 they would get the rest of the money back soon,” he said.
Cllr Alan Jewell suggested the club approach City Council to team up to purchase a tractor that could be used on occasion by the City Council team. This followed a similar initial proposal from Cllr Zoe Young.
The motion to award the club £ 2,000 was passed.
